Safety in Playgrounds
Peppertown Playground equipment is for children, not adults! Children MUST be supervised by an adult at all times during play.
If Children using the equipment are heavier than 60 Kilos (the most weight we recommend for our equipment), ensure that chains are used on all equipment that may otherwise use rope.
On-site adult supervision is recommended.
Playground Rules for All Kids:
- Don’t walk close to, in front of, behind or between moving items.
- Don’t twist swing or any other accessory chains or ropes or loop them over the top support bar. This will reduce the strength of the chain or rope.
- Don’t swing empty seats or other accessories.
- Sit in the center of the swing seat and other accessories with full weight on seat.
- Don’t use equipment in a manner other than intended.
- Don’t get off equipment while it is in motion.
- Be careful climbing on equipment when it is wet.
- Climbing or hanging on the frame of swing sets must not be permitted. Serious injuries can result from falls.
Only one child per planned occupant seat should be allowed on a swing at one time, with a maximum weight of 45 Kilos for each occupant.
Dress children appropriately for play. Avoid clothing with draw strings and loose fitting clothing which could become entangled or snagged on equipment.

Playground Construction
Caution: When building your Skyfort, we recommend at least two people for lifting and holding logs, frames and other heavy assemblies in position before bolting or nailing.
Safety:
Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying wood chips when cutting or drilling. Use a dust mask. Blunt nail points to prevent wood from splitting. To prevent splinters, sand the corners, edges, and all points of the wood by wrapping a piece of 80 grit sandpaper around a block of wood and sanding.
Warning
Be mindful of any sprinkler systems or underground utility infrastructure eg. water, gas or electricity meters, or telecommunication box. If unsure – to locate underground utility lines in Australia before digging, use the free Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) service. You can access the service online at www.byda.com.au or by calling 1100.

- Consult the assembly instructions supplied with your particular Wild Kids model.
- Build the Skyfort according to the plans supplied without altering the design. If you are unsure of any aspect, please call us on (07)3865551

- Using a hacksaw, cut off all protruding threaded ends of bolts and other fasteners and remove any sharp edges with a metal file as needed.
- Place the Skyfort on level ground placing the open end or ends, not less than 1.9 metres from any structure or obstruction such as a fence, garage, house, overhanging branches, laundry lines, or electrical wires.
- Make sure your Skyfort playground is not installed over concrete, asphalt, packed earth or any other hard surface. (a fall onto a hard surface can result in serious injury.) Remember – soft landings need soft surfaces.

Playground Maintenance
Keeping your kids safe while they’re swinging, sliding, and climbing starts with making sure their playset is in top shape. And let’s be honest, between weather, everyday wear and tear, and years of backyard fun, outdoor playsets often take a beating. That’s why a little regular maintenance goes a long way in protecting your investment and giving your family peace of mind.
It’s a good idea to give your playset a regular check-up, just like you would with anything that gets a lot of use. Below is a list of simple safety checks to help your outdoor wooden playset stay sturdy, safe, and ready for play all year long.
- Check all fasteners twice monthly for tightness and tighten as required. It is particularly important that this procedure be followed at the beginning of each season.
- To prevent deterioration of materials, remove plastic swing seats and other plastic accessories and take indoors when not in use for long periods, and when temperatures are extreme.
- Check all moving parts monthly during usage period, oil when necessary. Check wear on self lubricating bearings and replace if necessary.
- Check all hardware and equipment for sharp edges twice monthly during usage season and replace them as necessary. It is especially important to do this at the beginning of each new season.
- Check swing seats and chains monthly during the usage season for evidence of deterioration. Severe rusting or excessive wear, especially near the top swing hanger or at the seat connection are evidence of chain deterioration. Cracks in the protective plastic sleeve or seat itself are also signs of deterioration. If any of these conditions exist, replacements should be made immediately. Replacement Accessories can be purchased through Peppertown order on (07)3865551 or via the Peppertown website.
- Check logs constantly for excessive cracking and splinters. Sand the logs where splinters occur, and if the cracking constitutes any form of entrapment, use a appropriate silicon to fill the cracks.
- Check all rope and rope splicing to ensure that rope has not deteriorated. Ensure that the fibres of the rope are intact and that there are no areas of wear that may need to be replaced.
Signs You Should Repair or Replace Parts Immediately
If any of the following conditions are noted, they should be removed, corrected, or repaired immediately to prevent injuries:
- Hardware that is loose or worn, or that has protrusions or projections
- Scattered debris, litter, rocks, or tree roots within the play area
- Rust and chipped paint on metal components
- Splinters, structural wood imperfections, or decayed wood components
- Missing or damaged equipment and or components, such as hardware, handholds, panels etc.
