FAQs

Cubbies are static, closed and require few opportunities for imaginative or challenging play. We would ask you to put your tool shed on your centre lawn and sit in it in the middle of summer… enough said. Peppertown Playgrounds are challenging, edgy, demand interactive play and kids love playing on them. Your children will spend time outside in all weather. They will learn to play socially and will get fit in the process. They will grow up feeling confident about outdoor activities and their ability to participate in them now as well as in the future.

Peppertown Playgrounds are designed to challenge your child physically, as well as provide creative and adventurous play. Choose a playground that challenges your child, but can be managed by your child. If you have any questions, seek advice from our expert staff.

A residential playset is designed for use at homes rather than commercial areas such as parks, schools, or businesses. They are tested to withstand the use that would come from being in a backyard rather than somewhere that receives high volume of use all throughout the day.

Our Skyforts are built from sustainably sourced Australian wood. Much of our commercial equipment is made using recyclable plastics, steel and aluminium. We also have certified organic timber options. All our plastics and canopies are UV stabilized for the harsh Australian climate.

Peppertown was established in 1974 as Australia’s first do-it-yourself wooden playground manufacturer.

Yes, all our products come with instructions and guidelines for installation and proper use.

For Skyforts and Ninja Warriors, a level area isn’t necessary. These models are unique as they can be built on any sloping surface within reason for no (or very little) extra cost and with little inconvenience. However, for our freestanding Frontier models, we recommend a flat level area upon which the play equipment will sit in order to maintain maximum stability. If your backyard is not level, we recommend leveling out an area large enough for any Frontier designs prior to assembly.

Depending on the model, normally two posts, and sometimes three posts will need to be concreted for Skyfort. You will need 2 x 20kg bags of quickset for each post. Peppertown sells 20kg bags at very competitive rates.

No, we only use ENVIRO log and panels which are an approved Australian Standards product for playground equipment.

Each fort includes everything as pictured in our catalogues or on our website. If there is something that you wanted added or taken off your fort, talk to one of our experienced sales staff. Peppertown playgrounds come with everything you need to assemble them that afternoon. Consequently, all hardware and timber is included in your kit; all you need is a quality electric drill (and perhaps some concrete).

Every playset (both residential and commercial) comes with detailed instructions for installation, and it is 100% possible for anyone to build one themselves. We recommend that time is taken to look through the instructions and enough time is set aside as to not rush through the process.

The estimated building times vary for each project. All estimated building times are based on two (2) people with basic building experience. You can save $100s – $1,000s by building your family, child care, kindy, daycare a Peppertown swing set using your own skills to assemble the play set.

The following tools are required for the best building experience:

  • Electric Drill (Hex, Spade and Phillips head drivers needed for construction are included in the play set hardware for all Peppertown kits)
  • Hammer
  • Safety Glasses
  • Tape Measure
  • Level

Staining, painting or oiling a swing set are must-dos to keep your playset looking great and lasting longer. We recommend applying an exterior-grade wood primer and then using a high-quality exterior paint or water-based wood stain to create a protective barrier against moisture, UV rays, and mould. This not only keeps your playset looking fresh, but it also helps protect the wood from moisture and UV damage, which can shorten its lifespan. See our Painting and Maintenance pages for more information.

The most important ways to maintain your playset include tightening all the hardware, lubricating all metallic moving parts, checking wooden boards for damage, and keeping the wood painted, stained or oiled. See our Safety and Service and Painting and Maintenance pages for more information.

Seal the cracks with a paintable/stainable timber bog or silicone filler, then stain, oil or paint using a high-quality outdoor weather paint, and the playground will be unrecognizable! Remember that all current Skyfort accessories fit older models – so loads of options to discuss with the family.

Welcome to the Peppertown Skyfort family! Being in business for 50 years and selling fully customizable models means that we cannot send out instructions if we cannot identify the exact model. Best option is to ask the person you purchased it from to give you their Peppertown packet. Most people keep these bright yellow folders and will happily give to you! Secondly, take lots of photographs before disassembling! In most instances it can be easily put back together again and/or improved and added to. In addition to this, all today’s Peppertown parts and panels are compatible with those from 40 years ago, so there are no issues if your new addition to the family needs some TLC!

If your play set is located in an area of high humidity or is placed in an area that is shaded for most of the day, mould and/or mildew may occur. Start with a bucket of warm water and mix in a small amount of a mild dish liquid or a nontoxic cleaner that’s safe for playground equipment. Use mild soap and water rather than expensive chemical cleaners to see if you can lift mould first.  If opting to power wash your equipment, opt for a lower pressure setting. Test your timber and plastics first to make sure that the pressure of the water doesn’t damage the equipment’s surface.

Otherwise, use low-pressure water — an ordinary garden hose works just fine — along with soap to clean equipment. If stains are more stubborn, you can try spot cleaning/scrubbing the mouldy areas with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water using a soft-bristled brush or sponge. After the solution has had time to work, rinse the area thoroughly with clean water and allow the equipment to air dry completely before children play on it. After the play set has dried, a stain, oil or quality exterior paint should be applied to retard any future mould growth. If you’re having a recurring problem with mould showing up in certain areas on the playground, you may want to cut back trees or rearrange equipment so the affected area starts getting more sunlight. Exposure to sunlight can help surfaces dry off more quickly after getting rained on so they don’t remain damp, inviting mould to grow. Plus, the sunlight itself can help kill mould.

Yes, most definitely. This is one of the huge advantages of investing in a Peppertown Playground. We offer many accessories and features that can be added to existing playsets. Easy to add swings, panels, accessories, slides, decks, monkey bars are always an option to change up your set and keep it challenging.

Our swings and accessories are compatible with all recognised preschool and primary school playground equipment.

We run different promotions throughout the year based on holidays and other events. We do not have any lists of future products going on sale, but any sales running will be notified using our newsletter and on our Facebook page.

Our Skyfort and Ninja playsets are built from Envirolog Treated Australian Pine logs and are built to withstand the elements. However, proper care and maintenance is still required to get the most out of your playset. See our painting and maintenance pages for top tips on making sure your playgrounds last for decades.

What’s great about our Skyfort, Ninja Warrior and Wild Kids playground range is that it’s designed, engineered and built to last for a generation or more—not just a few years. You won’t have to worry about constantly replacing or repairing your playground equipment. And that means better long-term value!

Yes. Skyfort can be disassembled in less than an hour (except for the concreted key post/s which can be dug out or cut off at ground level). For Frontiers, it is most definitely possible to take them apart and move it to a new location. However, it’s likely easier to try and move them in assembled sections. Either way, proper care should be taken to ensure it is properly dismantled and most importantly properly reinstalled. Take photos before, during and after removal.

Depending on the condition of your playset it may be possible to relocate it to another home for other kids to enjoy. Peppertown Playgrounds have excellent resale value, so please consider putting on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree as someone will happily take units off your hands. If you aren’t interested in reselling or donating, other ways of disposing of the playset could include repurposing the wood for planter beds or taking the set apart and donating timber to various organizations that accept building materials, such as Reverse Garbage Queensland, The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre, or local Men’s Sheds. You can also check with your local council for resource recovery centres or waste management facilities that accept timber for recycling or reuse.  We do not recommend that you burn your playset especially if sealant and stains have been used.

The great thing about completely personalized playground designs is that you can create areas for both younger and older children. Everyone will be sufficiently challenged and stay interested. And, even better, the younger children will grow into the “big kids” area.

Younger children (ages 2 to 5) are just beginning to explore their world and actively use their imaginations! Depending on the specific age and development of the child, they may like slides, activity panels, swings and smaller-scale climbers. Sensory play events, like sand and water tables are also popular.

Older children demand movement and a wide variety of activities! You can appeal to them with exciting climbing panels or difficult rope and swing sets that have increasing levels of challenge, as well as higher and faster slides. Ninja lines, flying foxes, tight ropes, fitness and strength accessories and most overhead play events are also popular.

Children can build their muscles and their imaginations on the playgrounds. A challenging play event will give kids chances to figure it out or discover new ways to play. Older kids can also create their own games, races and other activities. Overhead events and playground climbers in particular help kids get and stay fit.

It is important to understand that no playground should ever be built on a concrete surface or near a hard edge. In the fall zones an impact material or softfall is recommended.

Safety surfacing is put down after your playground installation is completed. It’s usually easy to install, whether you are using shredded rubber, pea gravel, sand or treated wood chips. Bond-in-place and poured-in-place safety surfacing should be installed by certified playground surfacing experts.

There are two main types of playground surfacing: loose-fill and unitary. Loose fill consists of engineered wood fiber (EWF), playground sand, wood chips, pea gravel or loose rubber, and unitary surfacing consists of bond-in-place rubber, pour-in-place rubber, synthetic turf and resilient tiles.

Loose-fill playground surfacing consists of engineered wood fiber (EWF), playground sand, wood chips, pea gravel or loose rubber. It has a lower up-front cost but requires more maintenance over the long term. It is not ideal for inclusive playgrounds as it is difficult to navigate with a mobility device.

One of the best ways to keep kids safe is to choose super-durable equipment and keep it properly maintained. Sharp corners, worn finishes, gaps in the play events and lack of safety surfacing can all cause injuries. And they can all be easily avoided with playground supervision and some playground maintenance.

Yes. Peppertown needs a postcode to estimate approximate delivery charges. We ask that drop off points be easily accessible and obvious. For oversize items, someone must be at home to accept the delivery. Please note that because our deliveries are contracted, the drivers will only lift the playgrounds pieces off the truck. They will not carry the playgrounds to any designated areas other than the drop off point.

Yes, we can ship items overseas (e.g. The Pacific, England, Canada, Europe & America) and do so regularly. Yes. Where possible, put your playground in the shade. While Peppertown makes every effort to protect our playgrounds against extreme weather conditions and the sun, and we use UV inhibitors in all our plastics and rope materials, sunlight will ultimately affect the performance of all these materials. Please read about our Safety and Service guidelines HERE.
